Speed Parts Review: K&N SRT8 Jeep Grand Cherokee K&N 77-1567KS

If you have not figured it out that that thing making noise under your hood is nothing more than a air pump then we are sorry for your lack on knowledge – knowing that simple fact does not make everyone a master engine builder, but it does make it simple to understand that if you want more power you need to move that air into and out of your engine more efficiently to make more of what we all want – MORE POWER

The SRT8 Jeep is no slouch when it come to power and performance, but where there is some – there is more to be had and if you’re looking for a simple way to accomplish that K&N has a simple, effective solution that can be bought, installed and enjoyed by anyone with some basic tools and the ability to read a instruction sheet – LINK to those instructions if you would like to see just how easy it is.

We are gonna skip the “step by step” process mostly because by the time we had the parts out of the box, read the instructions and looked around for our camera – it was already installed.

Its simple, easy to understand and K&N even dropped a dyno sheet with horsepower and torque gains listed to back up their product – no, we did not put our SRT8 on the local dyne, but the “seat of the pants dyne” told us it worked and that was enough for us – LINK to K&N Dyno test….but, here is the “official” digs off the K&N website for those who would like to do the research themselves.

The K&N 77-1567KS high-flow performance air intake system is a free-flowing, mandrel-bent aluminum tube air induction system designed to fit specific Jeep Grand Cherokee models. The restrictive factory air filter and air intake housing on your vehicle are replaced by this K&N air intake system which is designed to dramatically reduce air flow restriction as it smoothes and straightens air flow. The improved air flow allows your engine to inhale a larger amount of air than it would from the stock air intake. More air means more usable power and acceleration throughout your engine’s RPM range. In addition to more power, this air intake system improves engine sound with more aggressive and deeper acoustics during acceleration. The chrome topped K&N high-flow air filter includes a heat shield that installs into the original air box space. Air passes through the intake tube into the engine’s throttle body for a guaranteed power gain. The intake tube has an attractive silver powder-coated finish that’s made to last and it accommodates the factory inlet air temperature sensor and crank case vent hose. The oversized cone shaped air filter can be used for up to 100,000 miles before servicing is needed depending on driving conditions. This air intake is relatively easy to install usually in 90 minutes or less using existing factory mounting points. The tools needed are a screwdriver, ratchet set and some wrenches. Some K&N 77 series air intakes are not legal for sale or use in California and other states adopting California emission standards while others are CARB exempt and 50 state legal. Check the K&N catalog or website for vehicle applications and specific CARB status for each vehicle and air intake.
So that’s about all you need to know – it’s a quality product, that’s easy to install, backed by a lifetime warranty and makes power – it’s one of the most common and popular upgrades you can do and ANYONE can do it so unless your planning a $12,000 twin-turbo build and you want some inexpensive, easy power make sure to check out the LINK and hit the buy button – you will be glad you did.
